MEETING IN CANADA

Today was the big ride with the Cambrai Unit 1st C.A.V.
from Ottawa, Canada. Jamie, (Cambrai Unit President) and I have been talking about it for weeks. Both of us rather excited about meeting for the first time.

I left the house about 1045 hrs and got gassed up in town, then hit the road I 81 North to Iron Block Harley Davidson in Adams Center NY. I arrived there at 1130 hrs and there were only two bikes with Canadian tags in the parking lot. I wondered what was going on as there were supposed to be ten riders coming down from Canada. I wandered into the store and didn't see anyone but the sales people around so started looking at the new bikes. Some prices!!!

I could hear footsteps on the ceiling above me in the antique bike display room. I went out to the front of the show room and saw a couple of folks up there and called out “You wouldn’t be the folks from Canada would you”. That got a laughing reply that indeed they were the folks from Canada and that I must be the fellow from the VOVMC they were to meet. So I met Brother Drifter and Sister Shadow, who had arrived before their compatriots from Ottawa. Drifter (Drifter is the 1st CAV President) and Shadow had come in from Kingston, and had crossed over at the Thousand Islands Bridge Any how we got introduced and chatted for a half hour whilst the rest of the unit came in.

I finally met Popeye and his wife Sister Olive, Lurch (he really is a big guy), Spanky, Moon, Saddle Tramp and of course STBOB. Think I did OK with the names which isn’t bad for a senile old man. There was some discussion of where to go for lunch. They had thought about Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse, but I thought there would be a parking and traffic problem so suggested a place called Quaker Steak and Lube on the west side of Syracuse, mainly cause you can park a thousand bikes there on Wednesday nights in the summer. The food is excellent and the waitresses are hotties. I know and old man, what’s he looking for”. I may be too old to cut the mustard any more but I can still lick the lid.

Anyhow off we went on a seventy mile ride through the back country to have dinner. An hour and a half later we got there. Everybody seemed to have a good time and enjoyed the back roads ride. We took a ton of pictures outside and more inside while waiting for our meals. I had a great visit with some very nice folks and have been invited to come across the St. Lawrence River for some good riding and fishing in Canada this summer..

We would first like to thank our Canadian Brothers in Arms Cambrai Unit 1st C.A.V. for their service to their country and fellowship to the VoVMC. A very special thanks to Chris who had the pleasure of first getting to meet them after MJ started the ball rolling. This is just the first meeting and we know the VoV has already accepted a invite to go up to Canada again soon. If your looking for a great road trip in th summer here is a place to go. THANKS TO EVERYONE.
